White people, I have decided to answer your prayers. It’s such a great injustice that there isn’t a special month dedicated to all the amazing things white people have accomplished throughout history. Like Black History Month, I’m going to be using this month to highlight the accomplishments of white people not normally highlighted during the regular academic year.

August seems like a fitting time for White History Month, so you can get your daily dose of white pride in before school starts up again.

Some of the topics we’ll be covering on the syllabus include:

European antisemitism, antiziganism, pogroms and the Holocaust

What really makes me giggle over the annual one month-outcry of WHY DON’T WE HAVE WHITE HISTORY MONTH?????? is when you hear it. the ONLY time you hear it. and why is that? there is no yearly organizing by white folks to have a month dedicated to glorifying them—on top of the other 12 months we already have in place for just such a purpose. There is no petition drive, no heartfelt committee meetings…just a bunch of crying during February about it.

And then, in March, those cries fall silent. Only to arise next February.

I wonder why that is.

p. lucha is pretty hilarious. i was talking about how she just recently made some pretty damaging marks (in blaring orange crayon) on my green screen—which has been hanging up and averted destruction for years now—and in she trots to protest that she did no such thing.

“i was taking a nap,” she says, earnestly. her eyes on the scrawling, looping, confident marks. ”nobody did that.”

i take a walk, then, to see what she had been up to before coming in to clear up my misconception. there—where she had been standing in the hall, upon the wall—is another, nearly identical, bright orange, corkscrew, graffiti mark.

p lucha. she interrupted her graffiti to come in and deny a separate charge of graffiti. holding the very same crayon.

that’s pretty damn funny.

It’s a time-honored tradition at Navy homecomings – one lucky sailor is chosen to be first off the ship for the long-awaited kiss with a loved one.
Today, for the first time, the happily reunited couple was gay.

The dock landing ship Oak Hill has been gone for nearly three months, training with military allies in Central America.

As the homecoming drew near, the crew and ship’s family readiness group sold $1 raffle tickets for the first kiss. Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta bought 50 - which is actually fewer than many people buy, she said, so she was surprised Monday to find out she’d won.

Her girlfriend of two years, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell, was waiting when she crossed the brow.

They kissed. The crowd cheered. And with that, another vestige of the policy that forced gays to serve in secrecy vanished.
