White people, I have decided to answer your prayers. It’s such a great injustice that there isn’t a special month dedicated to all the amazing things white people have accomplished throughout history. Like Black History Month, I’m going to be using this month to highlight the accomplishments of white people not normally highlighted during the regular academic year.

August seems like a fitting time for White History Month, so you can get your daily dose of white pride in before school starts up again.

Some of the topics we’ll be covering on the syllabus include:

Columbus and the conquistadors
European antisemitism, antiziganism, pogroms and the Holocaust
The triangle trade and slavery in the British Empire & U. S.
Lynching and Jim Crow
The invention of gynecology, the Tuskegee experiment, Mississippi appendectomies
South African apartheid
King Leopold and the Belgian Congo
The Chinese Immigration Act/Chinese Exclusion Act and the head tax
Japanese-American/Japanese-Canadian internment
Residential schools, Indian boarding schools
Stolen Generations
The Philippine-American War
The Iran-Contra affair
Embargoes against Haiti
Cecil Rhodes and his legacy
“White flight” and gentrification
“First wave” suffragists and race
COINTELPRO
The crack epidemic
the War on Drugs
Exclusionary aspects of the GI Bill
Exclusionary aspects of labor unions

And so much more. 

Here’s hoping you stick with us throughout this month and leave us as much feedback as possible. 

We can throw on Mérida Plan, Bracero Program, Operation Wetback, SB1070, HR4437, Arizona’s Cultural Genocide Program, and so on and so on….

What really makes me giggle over the annual one month-outcry of WHY DON’T WE HAVE WHITE HISTORY MONTH?????? is when you hear it. the ONLY time you hear it. and why is that? there is no yearly organizing by white folks to have a month dedicated to glorifying them—on top of the other 12 months we already have in place for just such a purpose. There is no petition drive, no heartfelt committee meetings…just a bunch of crying during February about it.

And then, in March, those cries fall silent. Only to arise next February.

I wonder why that is.
